Germanic Linguistics Consolidation Project

The Germanic Linguistics Consolidation Project (GLCP) was started to collect all Germanic Linguistics data together in one single place in one format. This format is open data and uses non-proprietary file types to make it accessible not only to scholars, but also to anyone interested in the language, literature, history, and culture of the people that spoke medieval Germanic languages such as Old Norse, Gothic, Old English, Old Saxon, Old High German, Old Frisian, and Old Dutch.

What makes this project distinct from other similar projects is that its goal is to have complete datasets of all Germanic lexemes in one place, rather than requiring individuals to search multiple locations such as multiple university websites and libraries. Additionally, it helps decrease the likelihood that those that are not scholars of Germanic Languages will find and use resources that are less credible, less authoritative, or are outright incorrect.

It is the hopes of the Project that the improved accessibility of these materials will allow for any new, emerging, or experienced people interested in the medieval Germanic peoples to produce their own original works -- such as translations, stories, or histories – and perpetuate the richness of the histories and stories of the peoples who originally spoke and wrote in these languages.

All data is stored at the Open Science Framework repository.
